The ATU2KD is a differential T-network tuner designed for outdoor use. The tuner comes in a weather proof case that can be mounted on the bottom of a tower or anywhere near your antenna.
The tuner supports both coaxial output and balanced line output. The balanced line output uses a Balun Designs 1:4 Voltage Transformer designed for 450 and 600 ohm transmission lines. The tuner uses a standard PL-259 coaxial connector for the input.
The tuner utilizes a StepperTune-BT (TrueLadderLine.com) control interface, that is located in the hamshack. A cat-5 cable runs between the control interface and the tuner.
The tuner uses a Blue Ridge Amateur Radio roller inductor and (currently) a commercial differential capacitor. The unit also features 2 stepper motors, drive belts, sprockets and the weather proof case.
The ATU2KD has been tested successfully on doublets with 450 ohm ladder line, vertical antennas, inverted L antennas, flag pole antennas, etc... On my own 200 foot doublet antenna with 450 ohm ladder line, the ATU2KD will tuner 1.0:1 SWR on every band from 80 meters to 10 meters. This tuner is not designed for antennas that are physically short for the band of operation.
